Unlike Southwest Austin, South Austin is directly South of downtown, right into very historic homes and neighborhoods. Talk about “keeping Austin weird” this is where it all started! Very eclectic stores and shops, lots of entertainment, awesome restaurants, some of which are converted feed stores or mercantile warehouses. It’s a fun place to shop, eat and just hang out.
On the first Thursday of each month on South Congress, all the shops are open and many vendors set up tents to sell their wares. Enjoy lots of music well into the night, lots of people with kids and dogs, great food and just a great evening all around.
